SUMMARY:Chief Pinesi Day
DESCRIPTION:Chief Pinesi Day is held annually on July 1 in New Edinburgh park to celebrate the Algonquin Anishinaabe history of the area. It is an opportunity for learning and reconciliation. \nThe event is led by the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and begins with a sacred fire at 9 am\, followed by a land tour beginning at 10:00. There will also be drumming\, dancing and singing. \nChief Pinesi Day is organized by the Kichi Sibi Trails group in partnership with the New Edinburgh Community Alliance (NECA) and the Crichton Community Council.  Funding for this year’s event came from the City of Ottawa and NECA. \nFor the most up-to-date information on the event\, please visit the kichi sibi trails website.

DESCRIPTION:8:00 pm    Good Ol’ Canadian Park Party \n\n\n\n9:30 pm    Fireworks Display  \nFinish your July 1 celebrations in New Edinburgh Park with a neighbourhood scale fireworks display close to home.  (Alternatively you could head off to LeBreton Flats to celebrate with 50\,000 of your closest friends.) \nWear your red and white (…or other colours that celebrate the diversity of our country).  Wave your flag.  Bring a snack\, a blanket and some bug repellant. \nVisit the licensed kitchen bar inside the Fieldhouse for free frozen treats.  A variety of refreshments (featuring beer from Local Brewery on St. Laurent)\, as well as some very basic snacks will be available for purchase. \nA collection of audio and video Canadiana will be played on the playground side of the Fieldhouse. \nFireworks will be launched from the gravel infield of the baseball diamond. Please view the display from the outfield. \nThis event may be postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather.
