Come say hello to your neighbours and share your stories from the summer and the start of a new school year. \nThe Crichton Community Council (CCC) will be hosting a community barbecue\, with\, hamburgers\, hot-dogs\, including options for vegetarians. Refreshments\, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic\, will also be available. \nLive music will fill the air. Game play areas will be set up on the lawns. Talented face-painters will be on site.  Bouncy castles will keep the little ones busy\, in addition to the playground and splash pad. \nWe hope to see you there!

DESCRIPTION:8:00 pm    Good Ol’ Canadian Park Party \n\n\n\n9:30 pm    Fireworks Display  \nFinish your July 1 celebrations in New Edinburgh Park with a neighbourhood scale fireworks display close to home.  (Alternatively you could head off to LeBreton Flats to celebrate with 50\,000 of your closest friends.) \nWear your red and white (…or other colours that celebrate the diversity of our country).  Wave your flag.  Bring a snack\, a blanket and some bug repellant. \nVisit the licensed kitchen bar inside the Fieldhouse for free frozen treats.  A variety of refreshments (featuring beer from Local Brewery on St. Laurent)\, as well as some very basic snacks will be available for purchase. \nA collection of audio and video Canadiana will be played on the playground side of the Fieldhouse. \nFireworks will be launched from the gravel infield of the baseball diamond. Please view the display from the outfield. \nThis event may be postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather.

SUMMARY:Chief Pinesi Day
DESCRIPTION:Chief Pinesi Day is held annually on July 1 in New Edinburgh park to celebrate the Algonquin Anishinaabe history of the area. It is an opportunity for learning and reconciliation. \nThe event is led by the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and begins with a sacred fire at 9 am\, followed by a land tour beginning at 10:00. There will also be drumming\, dancing and singing. \nChief Pinesi Day is organized by the Kichi Sibi Trails group in partnership with the New Edinburgh Community Alliance (NECA) and the Crichton Community Council.  Funding for this year’s event came from the City of Ottawa and NECA. \nFor the most up-to-date information on the event\, please visit the kichi sibi trails website.

DESCRIPTION:The Crichton Community Council in New Edinburgh invite you to the New Edinburgh Plant Sale on Saturday May 10th\, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at New Edinburgh Park at 203 Stanley Avenue\, Ottawa. \nFor more than 20 years New Edinburgh residents have purchased their plants on the Fieldhouse’s front lawn the Saturday before Mother’s Day. \nThe Crichton Community Council will be selling unique hanging baskets and planters from Les Serres Oli-Ève.  Proceeds support neighbourhood events and community initiatives\, as well as for the purchase of equipment for public use. \nFerme Lève-Tot will be selling edible plants for your gardens and answering questions about Community Supported Agriculture. \nProponents of a proposed community garden in New Edinburgh Park will be on site to discuss this initiative with you and to receive your input. \nThe CCC will be recruiting kids to help remove undesirable plants from the park’s flower bed.  A few holes need to be dug for new trees to be planted in the park.  Bring your kids\, some small shovels and gloves! \n*** \nThe CCC is a volunteer organization that provides seasonal programs and ongoing community service in New Edinburgh. Since its establishment in 1974\, the CCC has worked to enhance New Edinburgh’s sense of community by activating the public spaces New Edinburgh Park on the bank of the Rideau River. The CCC acts as the steward of the New Edinburgh Park Fieldhouse and the surrounding public spaces\, on behalf of the City of Ottawa\, in the interest of New Edinburgh residents.

DESCRIPTION:The New Edinburgh Bike Day event is back! \nJoin our community of people who love to bike on Saturday\, May 3 rd from 9:30am -1:00pm on a closed section of Stanley Avenue and inside the New Edinburgh Park Fieldhouse. \nBike sale starting at 10 am: Buy or sell a used bicycle (or other non motorized wheeled thing… scooter\, trailer) with the help of a volunteer. 10% of all proceeds to support the CCC.\nBikes for sale should be dropped off at the Fieldhouse on Friday\, May 3 rd between noon and 7:00 pm for pricing. Sellers can opt to donate unsold bikes to Vélo Vanier. \nBike show and tell starting at 10:30 am: View the bicycles on display at the bike show & tell.\nTalk to the proud owners of different kinds of bikes and hear about their experiences … or bring your own bike to show off. Learn about the joy of electric cargo bikes and the rental services offered by Let’s Go Cargo! \nKidical Mass Bike Ride at 10am: Participate in a family-friendly bike ride around the neighbourhood led by Kidical Mass (All children participating must be accompanied by an adult). \nFull Cycle adjustments starting at 10 am: Have your bicycle checked and adjusted on site at no cost by a Full Cycle mechanic.  (First come first served. Repairs can be scheduled at a later date.) \nShowing of the award-winning film MOTHERLOAD starting at 11:30 am: This film captures a new mother’s quest to understand the increasing isolation and disconnection of modern life\, its planetary impact\, and how cargo bikes could be an antidote. \nBike Café: Baked goods\, coffee\, and drinks available for sale all throughout. All proceeds will go to the Vélo Vanier program run by the Centre des services communautaires Vanier.
